Traded in and now available: a beautiful APL Hi-Fi DNP-SR SE Network Player.

 

The DNP-SR SE is a uncompromising high-end network streamer specifically developed by APL as a digital source for high-quality external D/A converters. In combination with an APL DSD-SR SE or DSD-MR SE DAC, it is a particularly beautiful digital combination, but thanks to its various digital outputs it can also be used with DACs from other manufacturers.

 

In the DNP-SR SE, APL has paid a lot of attention to a component that is often neglected by network streamers: the power supply . Where the streaming architecture used originally contained different switching power supplies, APL completely replaced it with its own linear low-noise power supplies.

 

In total , the DNP-SR SE has as many as eleven separate linear diets . Even the quad-core processor, memory, network controller, WiFi module and USB interface are powered linearly. A large, specially manufactured balanced transformer and a capacitor bank of no less than 70,000 μF form the heart of this very generous power supply.

 

Digital timing also gets a lot of attention. APL uses ultra-low phase-noise femto clocks to keep jitter as low as possible. The SE version also has further improvements to the output print, power supply and clocking compared to the previous DNP-SR.

 

For connection to an external DAC, the DNP-SR SE offers various possibilities. Via USB and APL's own DTR interface, it supports PCM up to 32-bit/384 kHz and native DSD up to DSD512 . PCM to 24-bit/192 kHz and DSD64 via DoP is supported via AES/EBU and coaxial S/PDIF.

 

For owners of an APL DAC the DTR exit is especially interesting. This own digital connection has been developed to transfer the digital signal directly and with minimal intermediate steps to compatible APL converters. This makes the DNP-SR SE and, for example, the DSD-MR SE a particularly beautiful digital combination.

 

Streaming possibilities have been extended. The DNP-SR SE supports Roon, Qobuz, TIDAL, Spotify, AirPlay and UPnP/DLNA , while music can also be played from a connected USB storage medium.

 

Also constructively this is clearly not a typical network streamer. The whole is housed in a heavy, fully aluminium made chassis and weighs no less than 13 kilograms . The net input is equipped with a high-quality Furutech NCF IEC.

 

Soundly, the philosophy of APL is focused on a natural, flowing and almost analog presentation. Not only maximum resolution, but right rest, timing, spaciousness and natural timbres are central.

 

The DNP-SR SE is therefore a particularly high-quality digital source for those who already have a serious DAC and want to maximize streaming. Especially in combination with an APL DSD-MR SE or DSD-SR SE, a digital front end of absolute reference level is created.
