The Living Voice Avatar R4 is a floor-standing loudspeaker for music lovers seeking naturalness, rhythm and musical coherence, without an analytical or exaggerated presentation.

Within the Auditorium series, the Avatar R4 sits above the Auditorium R25A and marks an important step towards the more refined IBX models. Living Voice describes the Avatar as combining fluidity, power and conviction, even as the music becomes more complex.

The Avatar R4 uses the characteristic MTM configuration, with a tweeter between two 17 cm mid/bass drivers. Living Voice deliberately chooses this layout for its high sensitivity, wide dispersion and coherent midrange reproduction. The two Scan-Speak mid/bass drivers use treated paper cones, while a 28 mm Scan-Speak soft-dome tweeter handles the treble.

With a sensitivity of 94 dB and a nominal impedance of 6 ohms, the Avatar R4 is easy to drive. It pairs well with both high-quality solid-state amplifiers and valve amplifiers of relatively modest output power. This is one of Living Voice's strengths: its loudspeakers do not require enormous power to sound dynamic, spacious and lively.

For the R4 generation, Living Voice focused particularly on the crossover. New proprietary capacitors, hand-wound air-core inductors, mechanical isolation and an optimised layout are intended to improve timing, reduce background noise, expand the soundstage and further enhance dynamics.

The cabinet uses a high-quality wood-composite construction, internal bracing and maple lining veneer. Its bass-reflex port is at the rear. Despite its slim dimensions, the Avatar R4 extends down to approximately 35 Hz while retaining the speed needed to integrate bass and midrange convincingly.

The sound is typically Living Voice: open, fluid and expressive, with a particularly natural midrange. Voices have presence without being pushed forward, acoustic instruments retain their colour and texture, and the stereo image separates easily from the loudspeakers. The emphasis is on timing, natural dynamics and musical communication rather than spectacular hi-fi effects.

This version is finished in Walnut, using carefully selected, book-matched natural wood veneer. It gives the understated cabinet a warm, classic appearance that suits the loudspeaker's British character.
