Living Voice R25 Anniversary

The Auditorium R25 Anniversary, or R25A, is the starting point of Living Voice's Auditorium series. Yet its price tells only part of the story. This loudspeaker is the result of 25 years of development and refinement of the original Auditorium concept, bringing much of the Living Voice philosophy together in a relatively compact and accessible design.

At first glance, the R25 Anniversary is unmistakably Living Voice: slim, understated and classically styled. Beneath that quiet exterior, however, almost every component has been reconsidered. For the Anniversary version, the crossover was completely redesigned, with Living Voice relying on extensive listening as well as measurements.

The R25A uses the characteristic MTM configuration, placing a 26 mm Scan-Speak soft-dome tweeter between two 17 cm Scan-Speak mid/bass drivers with treated paper cones, made specifically for Living Voice.

The crossover uses proprietary hand-wound air-core inductors, non-inductive wire-wound resistors and metallised polypropylene capacitors made specifically for Living Voice. The entire crossover is mechanically isolated from the cabinet to minimise the effects of unwanted vibration on sensitive components.

With a sensitivity of 94 dB and a nominal impedance of 6 ohms, the R25 Anniversary is exceptionally easy to drive. It works particularly well with high-quality valve amplifiers and amplifiers with relatively modest output power, while also pairing comfortably with more powerful solid-state designs.

This is a significant part of Living Voice's appeal. These loudspeakers do not need huge amounts of power to bring music to life. They respond readily to small dynamic changes, allowing rhythm, timing and musical expression to emerge naturally.

The R25 Anniversary's sound is therefore less about spectacular effects than coherence. Voices and instruments have natural colour and scale, the stereo image separates easily from the cabinets, and the music remains lively and engaging even at lower volumes.

With bass extension down to 35 Hz, the relatively slim R25A provides a surprisingly substantial foundation. The rear-facing bass-reflex port reinforces the bass without sacrificing the speed and openness for which the design is known.

This version is finished in Walnut, using carefully selected, book-matched natural wood veneer. It is a warm, timeless finish that complements the understated British design beautifully.
