The ANS-MR has been developed by APL Hi-Fi as a high-quality network switch for streaming audio systems, with great attention paid to the cleanest and stable transfer of network data to streamer, music server or network DAC.

 

Where a conventional network switch is primarily designed from functionality and data speed, APL has built the ANS-MR according to the same principles that the brand applies in its digital audio components. Power supply, clock, buffering and mechanical construction are all specifically selected with high-quality audio reproduction as a starting point.

 

An important difference can be found in the diet. The ANS-MR uses a fully linear power supply, equipped with low-noise voltage regulators with a fast transient response. Instead of a conventional switching power supply, APL uses a Lundahl transformer from Sweden specially manufactured for this application.

 

Behind it is a generously measured capacitor bank of nearly 14,000 μF , built with very low-level capacitors. With this the switch has a stable and low-noise power reserve for internal network and clock circuits.

 

Much attention has also been paid to the timing of the network signal. APL uses a specially developed Crystek ultra-low phase noise femto clock, which controls the internal LAN controller. This industrial network controller also has an integrated RAM buffer.

 

The ANS-MR offers at the rear eight RJ45 network ports, allowing multiple network components to be connected directly. Think of a streamer, music server, NAS or other network equipment within the audio installation.

 

The whole is housed in a solid, non-magnetic aluminium housing. At the rear there is also a separate grounding connection, so that the switch can be included in a more extensive earthing solution if required.

 

The philosophy behind the ANS-MR is ultimately simple: preventing the network connection from forming an unnecessary source of electrical pollution within a high-quality digital audio chain. Especially in a transparent streaming system, a carefully constructed switch can be an interesting last optimization.
