Lumin X1

Traded in and now available: a beautiful LUMIN X1 Network Music Player including the associated external power supply.

 

For years, the X1 was the absolute flagship of LUMIN and was developed without concessions to construction, power supply or digital signal processing. The result is a particularly high-quality streamer and DAC in one housing, designed for music lovers looking for digital display at reference level.

 

The digital heart of the X1 consists of two ESS SABRE32 ES9038PRO DAC chips, one per channel, in a fully balanced dual-mono configuration. The accurate Femto Clock with FPGA distribution ensures extremely precise timing of the digital signal, while the analogue output stage is coupled via two high-quality Lundahl LL7401 output transformers.

 

The X1 supports native DSD up to DSD512 (22.6 MHz) and PCM up to 32-bit/768 kHz. In addition, LUMIN offers extensive possibilities for internal upsampling, allowing music to be converted to PCM 384 kHz or DSD if required.

 

A special feature of the X1 is the optical SFP network connection . LUMIN was one of the first manufacturers to integrate glass fibre directly into a high-end network player. This allows a complete galvanic separation between the audio system and the regular computer network to be achieved, so that electrical network noise does not have a direct path to sensitive audio electronics.

 

The power supply also received special attention from the X1. The player comes with a separate, heavy-duty dual-toroidal linear power supply, housed in a solid aluminium milling housing. The analog and digital circuits have separate power supply sections and low-noise regulation.

 

The construction is also of reference level. Both the main unit and the power supply are manufactured from solid blocks of aluminium, where the rigid chassis not only gives a particularly nice look, but is also designed to optimally shield the electronics and reduce mechanical resonances.

 

Soundly, the X1 is known for its combination of resolution, tranquility and natural fluency. The presentation is large and spacious, with a very precise placement of voices and instruments. At the same time, the X1 retains a beautiful wealth and substance, which does not reduce music to just detail and analysis.

 

Thanks to the high-quality analog volume control via Leedh Processing, the X1 can also be connected directly to a power amplifier. A separate preamplifier is therefore not necessary, so a particularly minimalist high-end system can be assembled.

In terms of streaming possibilities, the X1 is still fully up-to-date. Support for Roon Ready, Qobuz Connect, TIDAL Connect, Spotify Connect, AirPlay and UPnP/OpenHome makes it suitable for virtually every modern digital music collection.

 

In addition to the balanced XLR and RCA analogue outputs, the X1 has digital USB and BNC outputs. This allows it to be used as a high-quality network transport in combination with an external DAC.

 

A very complete and beautifully built network player who for years was the reference within the program of LUMIN. Also today, the X1 is a very serious digital source, with a combination of streaming, DAC, high-quality power supply and construction quality that makes it particularly attractive on the occasional market.
