Traded in and now available: a set of five original Shun Mook Mpingo Discs. The Mpingo Disc is probably one of the best-known and, at the same time, most unconventional tuning products in the high-end audio world. Shun Mook developed these small resonators to influence mechanical resonances in and around an audio system. The discs are crafted from a combination of Gabon and Mpingo ebony and, according to Shun Mook, undergo a proprietary treatment process. The idea here is not simply to absorb resonances or to mechanically decouple equipment. Rather, the Mpingo Disc is used as a resonator and is designed to influence the resonance behaviour of equipment and the listening environment. It is simple to use, but above all encourages experimentation. Mpingo Discs can, for example, be placed on a pre-amplifier, DAC, streamer, CD transport, turntable or loudspeaker. They are also used for the acoustic fine-tuning of the listening room. Position and orientation can make a difference here. With five discs in particular, there are plenty of opportunities to try out different positions and combinations. It’s typically the sort of accessory where listening and experimenting are ultimately more interesting than a lengthy technical treatise. Price is per item.
