LUMIN X2 Network Music Player The LUMIN X2 represents a new generation within LUMIN’s top-of-the-range range. Whilst previous models utilised high-quality DAC chips, LUMIN has developed a completely proprietary discrete D/A converter for the X2. Not only the DAC itself, but also the power supply, clock architecture and signal paths have been optimised around this new design. The result is a network player in which the technology is primarily at the service of the music. The X2 combines a high degree of transparency and detail with calmness, fluidity and a natural presentation. Music is given space to breathe, with convincing imaging and beautiful layering, without the listener’s attention being constantly drawn to individual details. The analogue section is fully balanced and built using a dual-mono configuration. Two Lundahl LL7401 output transformers are used to connect to the analogue outputs. A precision Femto Clock system with FPGA distribution handles the timing. The X2 supports PCM up to 768 kHz/32-bit and DSD512, and is capable of internal up- and downsampling up to a maximum of PCM 384 kHz or DSD256. LUMIN has also thoroughly overhauled the power supply. The X2 comes with a separate, linear power supply milled from solid aluminium, featuring two toroidal transformers and separate power supplies for the digital and analogue circuits. The player itself is also constructed from a solid, CNC-machined aluminium chassis and rests on IsoAcoustics decoupling feet. Both Gigabit Ethernet and SFP fibre-optic connections are provided for network connectivity. Both can be used simultaneously, enabling the X2 to also act as a network connection for, for example, a NAS or LUMIN L2. Streaming is supported via, amongst others, Qobuz, TIDAL Connect, Spotify Connect, Roon Ready, AirPlay 2, UPnP/OpenHome, Plex and internet radio. Thanks to Leedh Processing, the X2 also features high-quality, low-loss digital volume control. This allows it to be connected directly to a power amplifier or active speakers if desired, meaning a separate pre-amplifier is not necessary. A remarkably comprehensive digital source for those who view streaming not merely as a convenience alongside traditional sources, but as a fully-fledged primary source for a high-end audio system.
