Lumin D3

New at Highender Audio: the LUMIN D3, a fully-featured network player that combines high-quality streaming with an integrated DAC, a fully balanced analogue output stage and the familiar user-friendliness of the LUMIN platform. The D3 is the successor to the successful D2 and is the entry-level model in LUMIN’s range of network players with a built-in DAC. However, LUMIN has not simply built on its predecessor. The D3 features the newer LUMIN processing architecture, a full aluminium chassis and a significantly updated digital and analogue section. At its heart is the ESS Sabre ES9028PRO DAC, combined with a fully balanced analogue output stage that utilises technology from the much higher-end LUMIN X1. Both RCA and balanced XLR outputs are provided, with an output level of 6 Vrms available via XLR. The new processor offers extensive capabilities for digital signal processing. Music can be played back up to PCM 32-bit/384 kHz and DSD256, whilst the D3 enables both upsampling and downsampling to virtually any supported format. Naturally, the D3 supports the main modern streaming platforms. It is, amongst other things, Roon Ready and offers support for Qobuz, TIDAL and TIDAL Connect, Spotify Connect, Plex, TuneIn and AirPlay 2. In addition, music can be played from a NAS or other UPnP/OpenHome server. Control is via the comprehensive LUMIN app. This not only allows you to select music and streaming services, but also to adjust virtually all of the player’s settings. Thanks to Leedh Processing, the D3 also features high-quality, low-loss digital volume control, allowing it to be connected directly to a power amplifier or active speakers if desired. In addition to the analogue outputs, the D3 features a digital BNC output. This means it can also be used as a high-quality network transport in combination with an external DAC. USB ports also enable playback from local USB storage. The D3 is therefore an exceptionally comprehensive network player for those seeking LUMIN’s stability and musical presentation in a compact and relatively affordable design.
