Traded in and now available: a unique, complete amplifier set from the German brand AudioValve, comprising two Baldur 70 Class A valve monoblocks and the Eklipse valve preamplifier with a separate power supply. AudioValve, founded by Helmut Becker, has for many years occupied a unique position within the world of high-quality valve amplifiers. The designs are technically sophisticated, generously built and combine classic valve technology with clever electronic solutions to enhance reliability and ease of use. Baldur 70 monoblocks The Baldur 70 is a substantial push-pull Class A triode monoblock delivering approximately 70 to 75 watts of power. This gives it considerably more control and headroom than one might expect based on the classic valve design. Each monoblock uses four 6AS7G double triodes as output tubes, supplemented by ECC82/12AU7, ECC83/12AX7 and 6N6P tubes in the driver stage. A distinctive feature of the design is AudioValve’s Automatic Bias Regulator (ABR). Each output valve is continuously monitored and automatically maintained at the correct operating point. This eliminates the need for manual bias adjustment and means that, in the event of wear, it is not necessarily required to replace a complete matched set of output valves. The rear panel features both RCA and XLR inputs, as well as separate speaker terminals for 4 and 8 ohms. Furthermore, the relatively low output impedance and a damping factor of approximately 20 give the Baldur considerable control over the connected loudspeaker for a valve amplifier. AudioValve Eklipse The matching Eklipse line preamplifier is also built entirely around valve technology. AudioValve designed it as a dual-mono preamplifier, with each channel having its own power supply section. Four 6189/12AU7-equivalent double triodes are used in the signal path. The Eklipse features seven line inputs, multiple outputs and a remote control. With a maximum output voltage of 15 volts and a low output impedance of approximately 200 to 300 ohms, it can drive virtually any power amplifier without any problems. In this version, the Eklipse is supplied with its own separate power supply, which physically isolates the power supply components from the sensitive audio circuitry. Together, the Eklipse and Baldur 70s form an impressive, fully valve-amplified combination: spacious, fluid and rich in timbre, yet with sufficient power and control to drive even speakers that demand a little more from an amplifier. This complete set has recently been checked and refurbished where necessary. The invoice is available for inspection. So it’s ready for many years of listening pleasure.
