Nagra Classic Phono met Classic PSU en VFS

Traded in and now available: a superb Nagra Classic Phono valve phono preamplifier, complete with the matching Nagra Classic PSU external power supply and Classic VFS anti-vibration platform. The Classic Phono is one of the most ambitious analogue designs in Nagra’s Classic series and was developed as the successor to the renowned VPS. In doing so, Nagra has incorporated much of the expertise gained from the development of the HD series into a relatively compact yet exceptionally refined design. The amplification circuit of the Classic Phono is built entirely around Class A valve technology. Nagra uses two selected E88CC/6922 valves, one ECC81/B739 and one ECC83/B759. For MC cartridges, the unit also utilises input transformers developed specifically for Nagra, based on magnetic core technology from the HD PREAMP. Suitable for both MM and MC The Classic Phono offers two separate inputs and can be extensively adapted to the cartridge used. For MM, the gain is approximately 38 or 48 dB, whilst for MC, you can choose between approximately 54 and 64 dB. The cartridge load can also be adjusted. Another notable feature is the option to select TELDEC and Columbia LP in addition to the standard RIAA equalisation. This makes the Classic Phono particularly appealing to enthusiasts with an extensive collection of older pressings. Mono cartridges and mono recordings are also supported. Classic PSU This set comes with the separate Nagra Classic PSU. This bypasses the Classic Phono’s internal mains supply, allowing the sensitive phono stage to draw its power from a completely separate chassis. The Classic PSU utilises, amongst other things, a bank of supercapacitors, silicon carbide diodes and multiple stages of very low-noise voltage regulation. According to Nagra, this design combines a number of advantages of battery power with the convenience of a conventional mains supply. The PSU can supply up to three compatible Nagra components with 12 V DC. Classic VFS The original Nagra Classic VFS (Vibration Free Support) is also part of this combination. The VFS consists of two solid aluminium plates that are mechanically decoupled from one another. Nagra developed the system to minimise the transmission of external vibrations to sensitive electronics. This is particularly relevant for a valve phono preamplifier, as very small signals are amplified here and valves can be sensitive to mechanical vibrations and microphony. Together, the Classic Phono, Classic PSU and VFS therefore constitute not merely three Nagra components, but a complete analogue system as Nagra itself intended. A particularly fine phono stage for those seeking reference-level vinyl reproduction, featuring the typical Nagra combination of Swiss precision, clever engineering and an exceptionally well-crafted mechanical construction.
