MBL 111f

The 111 F is one of the most recognisable loudspeakers in the range from the German manufacturer MBL. At its heart lies the famous Radialstrahler technology, whereby midrange and high frequencies are not projected forwards in the traditional manner, but are dispersed almost 360 degrees around the loudspeaker. To achieve this, MBL uses its own MT50 Radialstrahler midrange driver and HT37 Radialstrahler tweeter, both constructed from specially shaped carbon fibre diaphragms. The result is a soundstage that is fundamentally different from that of a conventional loudspeaker: expansive, free-flowing and exceptionally spacious, with the stereo image far less confined to a single small sweet spot. Radialstrahler combined with controlled bass For the bass and lower midrange, MBL opts for conventional aluminium cone drivers. Two 150 mm bass/midrange drivers and two substantial 220 mm woofers are positioned on either side of the cabinet in a push-push configuration. The drivers, which move in opposite directions, help to neutralise reaction forces on the cabinet. Furthermore, the two 220 mm woofers operate in a separate, mechanically decoupled 58-litre bass-reflex chamber. As a result, the 111 F combines the openness and spaciousness of the Radialstrahler units with controlled and powerful bass reproduction. It is precisely this combination that makes the 111 F so interesting. Voices and instruments are placed with striking naturalness within the room, whilst the loudspeaker simultaneously possesses sufficient foundation and dynamics for large-scale orchestral works, rock and electronic music. MBL itself positions the 111 F for a variety of spaces and describes it as ideal for listening rooms up to approximately 60 m². With a nominal impedance of 4 ohms and a power handling capacity of 340 watts, it does, however, warrant an amplifier with sufficient power and control. A distinctive loudspeaker, both visually and musically, and above all a superb alternative for those seeking something different from the traditional direct-radiating high-end loudspeaker. This set is, of course, second-hand, but in good condition, approximately 10 years old. Delivery can be arranged in consultation with the customer.
